Poland

The Polish team is a great unknown for all teams as well as for the fans before the start of the tournament. There is no men‘s competition in Poland and the red-and-white team will make its first historic appearance on the European Championship. The team is composed mainly of young baseball players who took their first softball practice this winter, and of players who have been practicing softball for two years at the club UKC Wroclaw. These players also take softball classes at the sports lyceum they attend. Six players have also been practicing pitching since this January, and although they are no Luboš Vrbenský, they are able to throw decent pitches.

And their ambitions? They will definitely try hard not to finish last, and prove to everybody that decent ball is played in Poland. It is highly likely they will compete with Great Britain for the fifth spot. But who knows - for the remaining participants, the Poles are „a Spanish village,“ as the saying goes in Czech, or a „Czech movie“ as they say in Poland.
